Six positions: bottom center, bottom left, bottom right, top center, top left, and top right. The margin adjusts to the page size automatically (about 4 percent of the page, between 8 and 40 points), so numbers stay clear of the edge on both small and large pages.
Choose the "page X of Y" format and each page prints as 3 / 12. The other format prints only the number. There's no free-form template here; for wording such as "Page 3 of 12", Header & Footer accepts custom text with {page} and {total} placeholders.
Not here; numbering always starts at 1 on the first page and runs to the last. To leave a cover unnumbered, split it off, number the rest, and merge the two back together. For Roman numerals on front matter, Add Page Labels sets the numbers viewers display instead of printing them on the page.
Numbers are set in Helvetica at the size you choose, from 6 to 72 points, in any color from the color picker. The typeface itself is fixed.
They're drawn directly into the page content, not added as annotations, so every viewer shows them and they print with the document. That also means they can't be switched off later, so keep your unnumbered original.
Each page is measured individually, using its crop box when one is set, so a document that mixes Letter and A4 or portrait and landscape pages still gets numbers inside the visible area at the chosen corner.
This tool prints plain numbers only. For prefixed, zero-padded numbering such as ABC000123 used in legal productions, use Bates Numbering, which has templates, padding, and multi-file support.
No. The numbers are written by a PDF library running in your browser and the file never leaves your device, which makes it fine for contracts and confidential reports.
